LEDs are gradually becoming the primary source of light for applications across the globe.  With their unparalleled energy efficiency and compact form factor, there are few drawbacks.  However the light that they produce is often too intense and concentrated to be comfortable for the naked eye.  This has led to a need for optical lenses and covers that can effectively diffuse LED light without reducing or absorbing it.

An effective solution

Light diffusion in lighting fixtures is nothing new.  Manufacturers have always sought to provide effective illumination with an appealing “eye feel” that comes from a large, evenly-distributed source of light.  For quite some time, clear prismatic lenses fit the bill for fixtures where fluorescent bulbs already offered a well-distributed source of light.  But the increasing popularity of LEDs has forced the industry to look for better solutions, and Evans has responded with PROLUMA.

In general, there is a trade-off between the amount of diffusion that can be achieved and the amount of light transmission.  With traditional materials offering transmissions as low as 50% in order to achieve the desired diffusion, these options have their limitations as manufacturers compete to provide the most amount of light at the lowest cost.  PROLUMA has been formulated to provide typical light transmissions of 88% - 90% depending on formulation.  All the while achieving uniform, gentle light production.

Durable and tailored to meet your needs

PROLUMA lenses are extruded with an exceptional surface finish, achieved at minimal upfront cost.  With a naturally-occurring flat finish, PROLUMA does not sharply reflect alternate sources of light.  It is also scuff and fingerprint resistant, making handling and assembly work less costly.  PROLUMA is also an impact-modified acrylic formulation, offering good resistance to cracking and chipping.   

PROLUMA also offers great flexibility.  With a variety of standard diffusion levels as well as the ability to tailor customized solutions, PROLUMA can be adapted to a wide range of applications.

Evans Engineered Products extrudes PROLUMA into linear lighting lenses.  And with this, Evans offers great options for cut-to-size, drop in solutions.  “Off-the-line” length tolerances of +/- 0.030” are generally acceptable for most applications, but where this is not enough, even tighter tolerances can be achieved with secondary cutting operations.
